I agree most of the time. But the rules for finding valid notes and voicings are the same.
You build on the 1-3-5-7-9-11-13
The melody dictates what happens sometimes. This complexity of harmony is typically used by jazz pianists.
I know it can be overused and some people never get used to it.
Try C-G-E-Bb-D-F but resolve it with F-A-C-E or F-C-E-G the parallel movement treats the clash like it was meant to be.
But maybe only half the population can reach a tenth so those kinds of voicings don't get used much.

I always thought C11 was without the E in it. The E and F clash and also confuse the type of chord it is: dominant, tonic or sub-dominant.

What do you think?

Little Prelude is a beautiful composition. You demonstrate it with perfect tone. The melody is pretty and yet slightly unpredictable, it leaves me anticipating where it will go. The left hand is so legato and steady that it never pulls the listener away from the magic of the melody. The music makes me think of waves licking the sea shore on a perfect summer day.
Thank you for this beautiful piece.

Hi Kim

I started to stray a little. I'm learning to keep on topic. My focus is beginner piano for adults from the context of gaining general musicianship skills.

Hi Rick, The premise and outline of your book is quite interesting. Have you submitted your book for publication? It appears to cover alot of ground, and many different styles and foci. Are you aiming at piano players or many musicians ( all kinds of instrumentalists or singers?) I'm not sure if this is a general focus or specific to players. Just perused the outlines of the chapters, so I didn't comment on all of them. Kim Stone
